Screenrant, your recent article comparing Sheridan's new project to Kevin Costner's "Horizon" overlooks a critical factor in Sheridan's success: the pivotal role Costner played in the success of the series. Many viewers, myself included, were drawn to "Yellowstone" primarily because of Costner's involvement. His portrayal of John Dutton was integral to the show's appeal and would likely have deterred many from tuning in had he not been part of the cast.
Furthermore, Sheridan's writing style has its shortcomings, often proving to be predictable and leaving significant gaps in the narrative. One glaring example was the aftermath of the shootings and bombings. Instead of delving into the emotional aftermath and character reactions, the storyline abruptly shifted focus to Dutton leaving the hospital. This abrupt transition failed to explore crucial aspects such as Rip's response to the events or the realistic portrayal of burn victims and Beth's recovery journey. Sheridan's apparent prioritization of promoting his other projects over maintaining the integrity of "Yellowstone" led to a decline in viewer engagement and, subsequently, a loss of faithful fans. It's disheartening how many viewers disengaged from the series due to its increasingly predictable and disjointed storytelling.
You state that Costner's project, "Horizon" is a risky venture. Is Kevin Costner taking a risk? Absolutely. In an industry that often shies away from bold ventures, Costner's willingness to take chances sets him apart. His wealth of experience and unwavering passion render him a formidable presence in the film world. And contrary to the skeptics who might bring up "Waterworld," I urge them to peruse the insightful article in Forbes Magazine detailing the successes Costner has achieved through risk-taking (*Hint: studio made money on WW.)
Costner's dedicated fan base anticipates his upcoming projects, slated to hit theaters this June. His meticulous attention to storytelling and deep appreciation for the western genre and its rich history, Costner promises to deliver cinematic experiences that compel audiences to flock to theaters.
What sets Costner's endeavors apart is their freshness and innovation. Unlike the seemingly endless stream of Marvel sagas, which, while entertaining, can feel formulaic with long periods between film releases, Costner offers something different. His upcoming films promise a journey that unfolds seamlessly, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in his storytelling without the prolonged waits between installments. It's a risk, to be sure, but one that holds the potential to redefine the cinematic landscape and captivate audiences in wholly new ways.
One added caveat that sets Costner apart is his undeniable talent as an actor. His performances have consistently showcased a level of dedication that surpasses many director/producers in the industry. Costner's commitment to delivering top-tier quality in both film and storytelling underscores his unwavering devotion to his craft and his audience. With each project, he strives not only to meet but to exceed the expectations of his fans, ensuring that every aspect of the cinematic experience is meticulously crafted to his vision.

Writing a novel is a dream many harbors but turning that dream into reality requires something that's not always easy to find motivation. If it were as simple as flicking a switch, we'd all be novelists by now. People often seek my advice on becoming a better writer, but the truth is, my tips can only assist those who are already putting pen to paper.
So, how do you stay motivated to write?
One of the most potent keys to unlocking your motivation as a writer is to establish clear and attainable goals. These objectives can be short-term, such as aiming for a specific word count each day, or more long-term, like completing a novel or publishing a collection of essays.
Goals provide you with a sense of direction and purpose, acting as a guiding light on your writing journey. But here's the kicker: ensure your goals are realistic. Committing to just 15 minutes of writing daily can be a fantastic starting point.
I can't stress this enough: establish a writing routine. It's a game-changer for countless writers. Consistency is the secret ingredient in the recipe for motivation.
Dedicate specific time slots each day or week to writing and treat them as non-negotiable appointments with your creativity. Over time, this routine becomes a habit, making it much easier to summon motivation when you sit down to write. I love writing Friday nights.
Where you write can be just as important as when. Personally, I thrive with a couple of green plants nearby and a window view. Find a comfortable and inspiring writing environment that genuinely resonates with you. Whether it's a cozy corner in your home, a vibrant coffee shop, or the hushed ambiance of a library, make this space your own. Infuse it with personal touches like inspirational quotes, artwork, or soothing music to create your unique sanctuary of creativity.
What inspires you in your daily life can fuel your writing. Seek out sources of inspiration to spark your creativity. Dive into diverse genres, explore different mediums, and immerse yourself in various forms of content.
Take leisurely strolls in nature, bask by the beach, explore art galleries, or simply observe life in a bustling park. Inspiration often strikes when you least expect it.
If you're itching to learn something new, dive into a book. My first book unraveled the mysteries of Sudanese mummies, opening up a world of possibilities. My latest novel delved into the wild west, painting a vivid picture of stagecoach journeys and the existence of serial killers even in those times.
The lesson here is clear: never stop learning and growing as a writer. Enroll in writing courses, devour books on the art of writing, and stay attuned to industry trends. Keep reading my writing tips blog. The more you expand your knowledge, the more confident and motivated you'll become on your writing journey.
Write about what sets your soul on fire. If you adore yoga, share the tips and wisdom you've gathered over the years. If you're passionate about collecting guns, infuse your lead character with that same fascination. Just as Clive Cussler's love for cars permeates his novels, let your passions flow into your writing. It's a surefire way to ignite your creativity and motivation.
Realize that motivation is not a constant state; it ebbs and flows like a river. As a writer, your task is to learn how to harness this fluctuating force. Implement these strategies and experiment with different techniques to reignite your creative flame. Remember, motivation often follows action. So, don't wait for inspiration to strike—start writing, and motivation will likely follow suit. Stay committed, stay inspired, and keep your words flowing onto the page. Your unique voice and stories deserve to be shared with the world.
Every book needs an ending. Even writers who are notorious for long novels still need an ending. What we all want is an ending that captivates readers. But, it's the ending that leaves a lasting impression and determines whether your readers will cherish your book for years to come. Crafting a memorable conclusion is an art in itself, and in this blog, we'll explore some tips and techniques to help you end your novel in a way that leaves your readers satisfied and eager for more.
From the beginning you should plan your ending. Much like building a house, the foundation of your novel's ending should be laid from the beginning. Having a rough idea of how your story will conclude can help you foreshadow events, build tension, and maintain consistency throughout your narrative.
Make sure to not leave any loose ends for key plot points. Readers invest time and emotions in your story, and they deserve closure for the major plot threads. Ensure that your main storylines find satisfying resolutions. Loose ends can be frustrating for readers and leave them feeling unsatisfied.
Your characters should undergo personal growth or transformation over the course of the novel. The ending is an ideal place to show how they've evolved, whether it's overcoming their flaws or embracing newfound strengths.
While it might be tempting to introduce a last-minute, convenient solution to your story's problems, it often feels forced and unsatisfying and presents itself as a cheap ending. Instead, let your characters face the consequences of their actions and make the resolution feel earned.
Trust your readers to fill in some gaps themselves. An info dump at the end can feel heavy-handed and disrupt the flow of the narrative.
Resist the urge to explain everything in the closing chapters. In my latest novel I decided to intentionally leave out information that a main character learned when reading a dime novel - revealing the secret my main character held.
What I did instead of the reveal within the story, I added the dime novel itself as an epilogue. My readers get to discover exactly what my character discovers. They become part of the story themselves.
if you want to show a glimpse of your characters' lives beyond the main story, consider adding an epilogue. This can provide a sense of closure while leaving the door open for future adventures or stories.
While surprise or twist endings can be powerful, they should make sense within the context of the story. Don't introduce a twist just for the sake of it; it should be a natural culmination of the plot.
In my first book, I left room for thought and imagination within the ending. Many readers tell me that after they put the book down, they could not stop thinking about what it meant or could mean.
A great ending doesn't have to tie up every loose end. Leaving some things to the reader's imagination can create a sense of wonder and curiosity, allowing your story to linger in their minds long after they've finished reading.
Crafting a memorable ending is a vital aspect of writing a successful novel. It's the last impression you leave on your readers, so make it count. Plan meticulously, consider your genre, resolve plot threads, focus on character growth, and aim for emotional resonance. With careful consideration and a dash of creativity, you can conclude your novel in a way that lingers in your readers' hearts and minds long after they've turned the final page. Happy endings.
In 1501, Michelangelo embarked on a journey that would immortalize him as one of history's greatest artists and create a symbol recognized worldwide: the statue of David. Commissioned by Arte della Lana, a wool merchant, this masterpiece was intended to adorn the Cathedral in Florence.
Michelangelo's vision took shape from a solid block of marble that had seen a previous attempt by artist Agostino di Duccio, who had left the goliath unfinished four decades earlier. Michelangelo's work began with the painstaking chiseling away of the unwanted marble, revealing his David piece by piece, as it emerged from the stone.
Yet, this David differed from the previous renditions. Michelangelo's David was not the triumphant hero or the self-assured warrior commonly depicted. Instead, it captured a young David standing before a jeering crowd, mocked by a giant.
We can all relate to that moment—the feeling of facing a Goliath, questioning our worthiness in the battle, and wondering if we have what it takes to succeed in our own quests. Our bodies and minds, unlike Michelangelo's David, are far from perfection.
But perhaps David himself was never flawless either. The statue represents strength and determination, a balance of truth, meaning, and emotion, all encapsulated in a work of art. It's a testament to the human ability to change, learn, and thrive—a marvel greater than any frozen marble sculpture.
We must remember that Michelangelo didn't simply chip away at the marble he wanted to preserve. His lesson lies in discerning what to shed and what to embrace. As we live, we must value ourselves more, have the courage to seek new adventures, and gain wisdom.
We are not defined by our circumstances but by how we respond to them. Our essence, our way of living, our balance—these are what truly matter. David was a masterpiece that took years to complete, a labor of love. But it can never compare to the depth, complexity, and ever-changing nature of a human being.
Unlike David, we evolve, learn, love, and adapt as we travel through time. We have the power to alter ourselves, to expand our horizons, and to move forward. We are more perfect and beautiful than any statue, but like the marble David, we can be just as stubborn in accepting who we believe we are.
Transformation can be intimidating because it's a leap into the unknown. Yet, with open minds and hearts, we can embrace change, let people into our lives, and improve ourselves. Love must flow in and out. We need to be more than statues, frozen in time. We are the living masterpieces, constantly evolving and striving for balance.
